  • to complement goal setting with written action plans
  • to monitor your progress using a control loop.
Teams

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the difference between groups and teams
  • Identify when it is appropriate to work in teams
  • Describe the process of team-building, and the role of a team manager at each stage of development.
Leadership

This is the fifth module of the Aspiring ManagerTM programme.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to explain:

  • the difference between management and leadership and how leadership fits into modern approaches to management
  • a widely-used model of flexible leadership styles
  • how managers can delegate tasks effectively
  • how motivational theory applies to the workplace.
Motivation

This is the sixth module of the Aspiring ManagerTMprogramme.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand some of the models for motivation
  • Apply motivation theory to your current job, and to that of a manager
  • Apply specific actions to motivate people and gain maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
Recruitment

This is the seventh module of the Aspiring ManagerTM programme.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • describe some of the techniques that help to reduce guesswork in staff selection
  • identify ways to integrate new team members, quickly and successfully.
Managing Resources

This is the eighth module of the Aspiring ManagerTM programme.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • review the resources available to you
  • explore ways to maximise the return on resources
  • review the basic principles of accountancy and financial management
  • identify top tips with regard to managing a budget
  • explore the key principles behind minimising waste.
Interpersonal Skills

When you have completed this section, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of communication in management effectiveness
  • Understand and apply selected key skills of communication
  • Identify actions for application in your current role and beyond.
Problem Solving

This is the tenth module of the Aspiring ManagerTM programme.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • List the key stages in solving problems
  • Clarify the level of control that you have over any problem
  • Describe the keys to effective brainstorming
  • Use a simple model for evaluation and decisions.
